German Painter, 1858-1925 German painter and writer. He grew up on his family's farm and tannery. As a child he showed interest in art, taking informal lessons in drawing from a local carpenter and caricaturing his primary school teachers. Corinth's father sent him to secondary school in the nearby city of K?nigsberg (now Kaliningrad), where he lived with his widowed aunt. A superstitious woman fond of story-telling, she possessed what Corinth later described as a coarse temperament and an unrestrained, 'demonic' humour. Carel Fabritus
1622-1654 Dutch Carel Fabritus Locations Painter. His oeuvre consists of a scant dozen paintings, since research has rigorously discounted many previously attributed works. These few paintings, however, document the painter unique development within his brief 12-year career. He is often mentioned as being the link between Rembrandt and the Delft school, particularly Pieter de Hooch and Jan Vermeer, whose depiction of light owes much to Fabritius late works in which his use of cool silvery colours to define forms in space marks a radical departure from Rembrandt use of chiaroscuro.
Thomas Anshutz
American Realist Painter, 1851-1912 was an American painter and teacher. He studied art in Paris at the Academie Julian, and at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts under Thomas Eakins. His most famous painting, The Ironworkers' Noontime (1880), depicts several workers on their break in the yard of a foundry. Painted near Wheeling, West Virginia, it is conceived in a naturalistic style similar to that of Eakins, although Eakins never painted industrial subjects.
